I’m Travis, and I’m glad you’re here

My name is Travis Spore and I am a maker, woodworker, designer, and turner. Spore Customs is how I share my passion and skills.

With nearly a decade of experience, I am happy to work with clients to make one of a kind pieces that will last for decades

I take pride in how closely I work with clients to make sure their piece is what they dreamt of.

Whether you are here to commission me for a piece, just looking around, or wanting to know more about me, I am glad you’re here. Stay as long as you’d like.

Beginnings

It started in my parents’ garage with a few old tools

When I was about 15 years old, I was bored one summer day and decided to go out to my parent’s garage and see what I could make with what was laying around. I ended up making a funky (albeit wobbly) bedside table. Seeing that I could take what was basically trash lumber and make something funcitonal out of it lit a spark inside of me. Since then, I have developed by making and design skills, knowledge, tools, and shop to fill my surroundings with high quality and interesting furniture pieces.

Different Shops, Same Passion

Although the building may change, the passion I hold for making never waned.

Through my late teens and early 20s, I moved several times. From my parents garage, to a dedicated building, to a parking lot in college, and now in the DFW area, the setting of my work has seen all kinds of shops. One thing remained constant, I always found a way to make things with my mind and hands. Being able to shape my surrounding by using my own two hands gives a satisfaction that nothing else can.

In Print

A few years into my craft, my work found its way to a magazine.

I started selling some of my work out of a boutique artisan shop near my hometown. That shop was featured in the March 2019 issue of Charm East Texas Magazine and used some of the keychains I was making at the time in their article.

Shop of Many Trades

Through my years of designing and making, I have tried many mediums.

Wood is my preferred medium, but I try to push my know how every time I am in the shop. I have tried blacksmithing, metal working, welding, machining, wood turning, wood carving, construction, cabinetry, tooling, and more. Every time I switch on the lights in the shop, it excites me with what I can make that day.

Where am I now?

Turning trees into treasures in DFW

I now live in the DFW area and continue to design, build, and make custom pieces as often as I can.
